Encourage and support research, demonstration projects, and data collection to identify and confirm effective, evidenced-based approaches for serving the homeless population.
The role that research plays in ending homelessness cannot be underestimated and it is one discreet way for philanthropy to get involved. Studying new and innovative housing models and their success rates on different populations leads to a better base of evidence which in turn can inform and direct substantive policy decisions.
Examples of cutting edge research and demonstration projects featured on the Funders Together website include:
- Cost Of Rural Homelessness : State of Maine Rural Supportive Housing Cost Analysis, May 2009
- Effect of a Housing and Case Management Program on Emergency Department Visits and Hospitalizations Among Chronically Ill Homeless Adults, May 2009
- Health Care and Public Service Use and Costs Before and After Provision of Housing for Chronically Homeless Persons With Severe Alcohol Problems, April 2009
- The Minnesota Supportive Housing and Managed Care Pilot : Evaluation Summary, March 2009
- Supportive Housing in Illinois: A Wise Investment, April 2009
