This post is based on a keynote speech that Tricia Raikes delivered to the Legislative Breakfast of the Committee to End Homelessness in King County on January 9, 2012. This February, Funders Together to End Homelessness and The Raikes Foundation, who are among our more than 150 members, will co-host educational and networking events for funders dedicated to preventing and ending youth homelessness. We also look forward to launching a learning community in 2013 focused on the issue of youth homelessness.

As we work together as a national community to collectively educate each other about exciting new developments in the effort to permanently end homelessness, it’s important to step back and learn, as well, from a global vantage point. Luckily, Funders Together was able to do just that last week, when our Board Chair David Wertheimer of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Board Member Martha Toll of the Butler Family Fund each met with the Honorable Brendan O’Connor, Australia’s Minister for Housing and Homelessness and a member of the Australian Parliament.
